Diary, December 3, 1854 – September 2, 1855


Asenath P. Taber traveled with her father (Daniel H. Taber), mother, and sister (Emily) aboard the barque (whale ship) Alice Frazier (built 1847, Richmond, Maine) on its journey from Honolulu, Hawaii to Melbourne, Australia.

Diary includes sightings and encounters with Natives, captains of other vessels, and other travelers; dinner with King of Tongataboo; sightings of sperm whales and the catching and disposing of whales; travels to all rock island, “Pinchgert;” shopping trips; church outings; recognition of 12th birthday (July 22, 1855). July 1855, is also where the journal starts keeping latitude and longitude in the diary.
