simply ordinary graff-
ing by his description
of cross pointing on
p50, though in that
of the Grecian Splice
he uses the phrase
as here - ]
* Cross-pointing, ^a rope (Burney 50) is covering ^it a
with several strands &c (e.g. of white
line) just as the core of a lash is covered
with leather strips. When the end of the
rope is reached the strands are unlaid, twisted
into nettles & pointed.
