An overhand knot may be tied at a before beginning the Figure
of 8 if desired, but it would seldom be necessary, probably.
In fig 1. it will be noticed that if a were
pulled out of the lower bight, an ordinary
weaver knot would remain. (ii.1.i.4.) The
method shown in fig 2. is suitable for
eyed hooks when the eye is only slightly
larger than the gut &c. to ^be passed through
it.
