"Noeud de Chaise (Double ordinaire) " La Grande
Encyclopedie. "Chaise"
= The bowline on p44. col1 (no 2) Bk
with the end b taken on following
round to a. It can be made ^is a "bowline on the bight".
* It is well to know how to begin un-
doing this knot. ^Which is simply to
reverse my second method
or "brooch knot plan"

In all its forms & positions
the proper plan is to loosen the single bight
going round the two standing parts & to
bring it down over all the rest of the
knot, thus:- A simple brooch
knot remains which is easily
undone. According to H. it
used to be a common trick
to tie farmers' reins with this
knot at inns. The farmers being unable to undo
it had to cut their reins.
