Uses: In hoisting or lowering a man
this form of bowline is more convenient
for him to sit upon & is therefore used.
To sling casks or butts. (Braude [???])
Characteristics: It is slightly stronger
than the single bowline owing to some
of the parts being doubled & to the
fact that the lion loop, though single,
surrounds two parts instead of one, &
therefore makes a less sharp curve. Of
course if one of the standing parts is
left free, the strain on
single ^other standing part is similar to
that in the case of a single bowline.
It is fro "Noeud de Chaise (double)"
La Gde Encyclopaedie.
(Double Bowline.) No
stronger than the single,
but more comfortable to sit in. (A bowline & a
bull loop & 2 bights instead of one.)
