granny bowlines in addtion to the
four true bowlines & the four inside bow
lines ( ii.44.7.) All these granny weavers
& bo granny bowlines are represented on
p.64. The backs of them are identical with
the fronts.
It may be that these grannies are
inferior to the true weavers, but has
not been found possbile to differentiate
between them for practical purposes by
experiment.
The parts of a granny weaver when
the knot is taut differ from those of a true weaver in lying flat and
at right angles to one another. (cf.
pp . 35 & 65. ) The knot really consists of a full [cool?] loop like this [diagram] with an -
other similar loop round the point parts where
the two parts cross, its own crossed parts
lying inside the bight of the first loop.
