[aster]While working the knot repeat pronounce
in Hindustani the following incantation
(Padfield. p 76.)
Pronouncing the work Om, the Brahma
Sutram must be tied, & afterwards worn.
(The wearer) will receive parity in all
his rites.
It being the personification of all
the gods.
It is used in that part of the Hindu
marriage ceremony called Kanya Danam,
wherein the upper garments of the bride
& bridegroom are tied together with this
knot , the priest saying "You must trust
& support each other". The knot is loosened
& re-tied at various stages of the pro-
ceedings. Padfield.p 124. (Hence this
Granny Weaver pure & simple of p 64. col ii[w?]
is entitiled to be called the Brahma Knot.
