By taking the figure on p94 it is
easy to make the knot with only one
free end, as, for example, by laying down
the cord along the dotted line to the
left and then working along the curves. through
the blue to the violet
Then if it is
desired to double the knot, on reaching
the end of the violet, continue under
the loop & work along the blue same lines
again until the end of the violet is again reached. this makes a much more attractive knot. Or, on going round the
second time, cross under wherever the
line being followed crosses over and
vice versa. The result of this process is a very
intricate [Deleted diagram] knot, and one
difficult to make without [some?] an
arrangement of upright pins or
some such apparatus.
All these knots can be finished
off by unlaying the short end and
seizing it the strands round the standing part. They
are prettier when not fully tightened.
