Sheepshank (Half Hitch)
Other names: Dogshank.
[Caption: 4][Caption: T. B. i. 70.
E.B.xxi.593.i.B.]
To make: Lay the rope as before (p.109)
and making a lion loop near a, put the
bight c through it, and so with b & d.
It is desirable to seize c to a and d to b,
to prevent slipping. This knot can be
made when neither end is free.
Uses: See p.109.
Characteristics: No free end necessary.
Seizing desirable. The two half hitches
in the figure are reef half hitches, but
they can be made granny half hitches
if preferred. Reef half hitches are probably
better.
