put through the blue bight & under the Blue
end. Then lay the blue end on its own
part & let it follow its part through the

Now take the red end [ ?] by its own part
over the blue part & straight down throught the
centre of the knot & out between the roots of
the red & violet strands, i.e. the parts of them
springing immediately from the laid up part
of the rope, thus:-
Thus in fig 1.p153 the violet end [would??]
be put down under the red parts; the
blue under the violet parts, and the
^red violet under the blue parts.
Pull the red end down, but not very
tight. Then take the violet end along its own
