violet & blue strands. LAstly take the blue
end over the doubled violet, down through
the centre & out between the roots of the
blue & red strands. Tighten by pulling
evenly from rightleft to right round the
paths of the strands little by little in
turn. Then cur the ends off close under
the knot, or fray them & bind them to
the rope, or push them in between the
laid up strands.
The reverse knot can be made in the
same way, mutatis mutandis.

carried along its own ^partbight through
one more bight, the position in fig 4,
is reached. The partsends may then follow their
