Buoy-Rope Knot. ( Cable .) H.
To make : Put a seizing
on the cable where the
knot is to be. Unlay
the three ropes of the
cable to the seizing &
unlay one strand from
each of these ropes
as far as the seizing.
Lay up the three two-
strand ropes again, twisting
^each of them while so doing in the direction of
their own (hawser) lay, so as to make
them take collectivily a good cable
lay. Then with the three strands make
a stopper knot (as on p 165) with the
lay of the cable & round it. Worm the
ends up and seize them. Take off the
original seizing or not as prefered.
Some, ^(Burney, Falconer ) make the Whale Knot (p137. fig2)
instead ; and some make a stopper knot
