&[?] Jutsum (p 46) makes a strong point
of tucking round & round the same
strand with the lay ^ with [ sc.?] that ^strand with
which the first overhands ^is are made ^in each case.
This plan of tucking is analogous to
the method of making a Sailmaker's
Splice q.v. (V. 173,) except that in that
case the tucking is done against the
lay of the ropes.
* Or the strands may be divided, and the halves
of each of the pair knotted, the halves re-
presenting the thinning being tucked over &
under the turns without knotting or cutting off.
