To make: The object
being to make a
loop at the end of
a rope by means
of ^short splicing the end
into the standing
part, unlay the
end about as far
as necessary for a
short splice (p. [room for a page #]
and bring the end round against the
standing part opposite the spot where
the splice is to be ^(fig 1.) The different
unlaid ends must now be passed
with the aid of a marline spike under
the different laid up strands, which
