Cut Splice. (Moriarty, Dana, [Burney?], Bushell

To make: Cut the rope & let the ends
overlap to the extent necessary to make
an the eye of the size desired, the ends of
each part having been first unlaid as
though for a short splice. (p.145) Splice
the ends of one each piece of rope into
the standing part of the other in the
same manner as is directed for the
eye splice. (p173.) Parcel & serve the two
^spliced portions as desired.
Uses: To form an eye in the middle
of a rope. As a stronger form of short splice. (Steel.)
