To make: Take a piece of rope longer
than the circumference of the intended
grommet to the extent convenient for half
knotting & tucking in the ends of the strands
as in a long splice. (p.163) See fig 1.
Unlay one strand e.g. no 2. (fig 2) and
exceed the circumference of the grommet
to be made. These ^four unlaid ends may
be stopped together if desired. At about

bring 2 through between the four ends.
Now unlay 3 (fig 4) and
proceed to relay it in the same way, be-
ginning at the point marked with
blue crosses in fig 4, which is about
a third of the circumference distant
from the point where 2 began to be
re-laid. When 3 is re-laid the appearance
