[Caption: What is this]
Cf V. 203.
If the ring in the knot opposite were
a metal ring & the cord cut at the
twist, this knot would form rather a
good mooring knot of the Larks Head
B Either end will ^ may
[run?] be strained & I believe
this to be a new
knot ^ hitch. If a were
taken through the
left hand bight it would form an ordinary
running knot. If through the right hand
bight, a figure of 8. If instead of a a
bight were put down, it might serve as a
signal hitch &c. since on pulling a out
& straining b, the hitch runs out.
