Notes on the Tables.
(1) The second half of each table
shows nothing but reverses of
the first half. Hence a - in the
first place indicates a reverse.
(2) A knot's no. being given, the
reverse no. is (Possibilities) - (knot no.)+ 1
Thus in y=3, the reverse of no 4
Given the reverse no., that knot no
is (Possibilities) - (reverse no)+ 1, e.g.
the same example.
(3) Altenate crossings appear (i) when
y is odd against No 1+21+23+25.....
to 2y-2; (ii) when y is even, against
Thus y=5. y-2=3. 1+21+23=
11. And these we find +-+-+.
Again y=4. y-2=2. 2+22=6.
And no 6 is +-+-.
