O Byrne's Naval Biography in Carlton Club.
The Hon Sir Chas Gilbert JohnBrydone Elliot,
K.C.B, Admiral of the Fleet,
died 21 may 1895, aged 76 & 1824?
? the inventor of this "eye".

The eye is figured in Nares ed 1886. Burney 5th ed. 1878 or
earlier, [where?] he is simply "Elliot". Bushell (1893) calls this
"Adml. Elliott. The eye is called "Elliot-eye" in Adml.
Smyth's Sailors' Word Bk 1867. ap. M. D. sub "eye.
