kackle the cable below the seizing with
rounding^ 2 to 3 times the size of the hitching
rope. As there are riding turns on the
throat seizing, rounding twice the size
only will look best since as ^since it will be
fairly level with the surface of the
seizing. If it is considered necessary
to use bigger rounding some means
must be devised to make the throat
seizing larger in proportion. Let the
kackling extend for a distance of 4 to
5 cable circumferences from the eye,
and begin it in the middle working
towards & away from the eye ^at once. (fig 3.)
The kackling may be tapered by taking
a strand out for the last few turns
farthest from the eye. Bushell says
6 men will be required for putting
on the rounding, 3 each side of the
middle point. It is obvious that to
make this eye in a 26” cable weighing
about 144lbs per fathom is a big job, &
