3" rounding is not so easily worked as
spun yarn.
Uses: to form an eye in cables: e.g. in
the outer end of a hemp sheet cable. (Burney 239.)
Characteristics: An eye-splice combined
with a long-splice having the ^maximum strength
of two ropes ^of the cable, plus that acquired by
the hitching & thimble. The strength will
be (Note on Elliot p1.α.) greatly lessened
if the strain on the two eyes splices is
unequal. (see iii. pp254-5.)
