splice while being served is de-
sirable.
Uses: To splice any form of rope
& ropes of unequal sizes. As a substi-
tute for shroud knots.
Characteristics: A short splice
with many strands (represented by
the foxes) but the strands are tucked
(or may be) more often than in a
short splice and marling of the
frayed ends adds additional security.
The splice should bulge only slightly
beyond the circumference of the rope.
