Grecian Splice (2)
(2) Unlay the length of twice the cir-
cumference of the rope ends; unlay
the strands; twist the outside yarns
into foxes composed of 2 yarns per inch
of circumference: i.e. a 3” rope would
have 6 yarns per fox. Of the inside
yarns take a quarter of those from
each strand & lay them up as a rope,
to an extent sufficient for tucking once
each way (as in a short splice.) From
the remaining three quarters of the
inside yarns take as much as will
be required for worming, cut the re-
mainder off. Make the short splice
for the heart; then cross-point (plait)
as found easiest ^ & complete as in the first
method.
These directions, given somewhat con-
fusingly by Burney (42) will be found tire-
some to carry out. Unless great care
