To make: Unlay the two rope ends
about 5 times the circumference of
the rope, more or less according to
fancy. Divide each unlaid strand
into 2 parts, ^fray & twist each half strand
into a fox, following the lay of the
Middle two opposite foxes as in fig 1, * so
that they cross one another with ends
long enough to project slightly over
the laid up parts. Then twist them
together tightly as indicated, against
the lay of the rope. The result will
be as in fig 2.
