- The two ^end pieces of rope are unlaid for a
short way on either side of the mat, and
spliced into themselves, forming, in part,
four eyesplices, but these need not be made
with any great precision. Other methods
of proceeding will suggest themselves, the
object being to form a selvage of some sort.
