To make: Split each of the two yarns to
be knotted into two parts and crutch
together as in fig 1. Then proceed as in
figs 2 to 4. Pull the knot tight and it
will be found to be a reef knot (fig 5)
with two extra ends running through it.
Trim all four ends off short.
Uses: To join short yarns into longer
pieces suitable for seizings &c. leaving
the knot as small as possible (Nares. 21. B.)
Characteristics: A reef knot made
with half of each part and therefore
smaller than it would be otherwise be, &
to that extent more convenient.
