To make: Lay ^hitch the short end b
along^on the object to be marked; take
the long end a over back & round
the object, across b to the left and
through under it to the right. Carry
it along again & repeat the process
until the object is sufficiently marked.
If the object is round (e.g. a
selvagee) the ends a b may be
knotted when they meet. If they
do not meet ^*, Finish off with
a clove ^(i p 231) hitch, or a figure of eight
bend (i.p. 169.) or a pair Suppose
