Lay ^hitch the short end b along^on the object to be marked; take
the long end a over back & round
the object, across b to the left and
through under it to the right. Carry
it along again & repeat the process
until the object is sufficiently marked.

selvagee) the ends a b may be
knotted when they meet. If they
