Parbuckling. (1)
To make: As figured. It is not necessary
to take the two turns round the log
shown in the figure, but it steadies
the log .*
Uses: To facilitate the movement
of cylindrical objects, barrels & and
to raise or lower them perpendicu-
larly or on inclined planes as well
as to move them horizontally. In raising
& lowering casks the round turns are
not taken and a couple of inclined
planks or a broad strong ladder is
employed when possible so as to supply
an inclined plane for the cask to
roll on. In the case of long logs
many ropes may be used at once.
