an eye were made by a throat seizing
and both parts strained in different
directions below the seizing, either
the rope, or the seizing ^being more sharply bent, would be
[Added: more] damaged. very quickly.
Characteristics: Both kinds of
eyesplice are used on this eye. But
there is no ^strong reason why the splice
at a should not be carried upwards
instead of down, in which case it
would be the ordinary eyesplice. The
result might be a little less neat.
