Coach Whipping Plaits.

To make: An even number
of strands ^exceeding two must should be used,
and four is the [normal?] ^a convenient number.

making the plait. One
way is as follows: The strands
being fixed conveniently as
in fig 2, take 1 & 3 in the
right hand & 2 & 4 in the
left & cross the former over
the latter (fig 3.) Then twist
the right hand strand of
each pair to the left over
the left hand one. (fig 4.)
Cross the left hand pair
(2 & 3) over the right hand
pair, changing hands. (fig 5.) Put the
upper of the overlying pair under the
upper of the underlying pair (2 under 3)]
