strands may now be crutched and
^strongly stopped at c (figs 1 & 2) or they may
be untwisted for a short distance
behind the whippings (as i. in fig 3),
and afterwards crutched & [?:
stopped. At any rate the untwisting
has to be done, and is a matter
of difficulty with large rope. After
untwisting take off the whippings* &
twist -in fig 3- 6 round 2, 5 round
3, and 4 round 1, in the direction
indicated. Taper 4, 5, & 6 after
each twist until they end, cutting
the yarns from the part of them
which will lie undermost.
A precisely similar process is
performed with 1, 2 & 3 on the other
side of c-, the same pairs being twisted,
viz. 2 round 6, 3 round 5, & 1 round 4.
The resulting splice ^somewhat resembles the
Twist Splice (p 43) and should be ^wormed, parcelled & served.
