Uses: To sling guns and other objects
of irregular shape.
(1.) This method of slinging
already noticed as the common mode
of tying bales & parcels in Japan. ^1.263.
A knot or splice is to be assumed
to exist somewhere in ordinary rope
slings. The bights pass under the
cas cable at a and under a wooden
fish placed in the muzzle at b.
(2) The same as no 1. but with an
extra twist at c.
(3) The same as no 2. but without
the fid, one bight being taken round
the chase and the twist at c in
fig 2 being underneath [ins ?] the chase
at b instead of above it at c .
