In Lazard's "Nineveh & Babylon " (1853)
p115.a is an engraving, after a drawing by
Sir Gardner Wilkinson, from of "the well-known
painting in an Egyptian grotto at El
Bersheh of the moving of a colossal
figure". In this the ropes bands round
the figure are composed of several ropes
twisted together hawser-wise, & many
woolding sticks inserted between them
for tightening by twisting, the ends
of two being shown tied to the
bands, much as they would be now-
