plication of turns unnecessary turns
some part of the knot is likely
to remain slack, and it is there-
fore easy to undo.
H. calls it (22.i.B) a form of
sheet bend. It has nothing ^little in com-
mon with a sheet bend. The knot
is a tangled mess [strikepout in pencil] of string. One part
of it may take the shape shown
in fig 4, curiously resembling the
treble clef. Hence the name adopted
here for this otherwise nameless
tangle.
