Sheer Lashings: various.
Sheers are lashed in many ways.
Sometimes the lashing is begun with
a timber hitch round one sheer (A.p. );
Sometimes racking turns are taken
instead of round turns. If the seizing
on i.224 were used the legs would
cross naturally by virtue of the
mode of lashing without straining
the rope. Sometimes round turns
added below them (A .) The general
principles applicable to other seizings
& lashings apply here, the only
peculiarity being that all lashings
commonly used for sheers are strained. Ap-
parently i.224 is not used
