Blood Knot form. To make : Commence
as in fig 1. p.1. that is to say,
with a hawser-laid cord, cross the
parts so that they have a hawser
lay, counting 3 crossings for a single
coil (viz. an overhand) and 2 more
crossings for (formed by putting an
end once through the bight) for
every additional coil required in the
completed knot. While making these
crossings twist up the cord with its
lay tighter than it would normally
be, and let the length of the
uncrossed part of the bight be
kept about equal to the crossed
part. (With a cable-laid cord, pro-
ceed in the reverse manner.) Then
pull the two ends steadily, straight
away from one enother, whereupon
the uncrossed part of the bight will
lay itself around the other part
