Granny Knot Trick.
Twist up a handkerchief, tie an overhand
by crossing one end a over b. then tie a
granny by crossing b over a in the same dire-
ction. Give a to someone to strain tight, and you
pull on the part from which a comes. Go
on tying granny fashion ^by crossing b over a & each time let
the stranger strain the same end a. You will then
have a lot of apparent knots, but really
only a spiral succession of half-hitches
by b over the strained and straightened a.
Finish the trick ad lib by pulling out a
and shaking out the coils of the half-hitches, when
no knot remains.
