[Baltimore oriole : Icterus Baltimorii. See
Murray's Dict . "Baltimore ". a bird of the
starling tribe. ]
* The "icterus" is called "galgalus" in Plin .
30.11 according to Ainsworth. Under Galb "Gal-
gulus " (Ainsworth does not give "galgalus " exc-
cept under "Icterus" ) "galbulus" & "galbula "
are given as synonyms & a reference to
Plin . 33.11. Under "galbula " , Martial . 13.68.
The references to Plin. appear to be wrong.
My ed. spells "galgulus ." No doubt Linnaeus'
term is "Icterus Galbula " & = Icterus Baltimorii ,
Oriolus galbula (Minstrelsy of Wood[s?])
