In fastening the sticks of the
triangle together they first wound
a single piece of string many times
around the joint passing 3 or 4
lashings through each vertical
angle , so as to keep the sticks
from slipping or working. Then
they fastened the ends of the string
together making (1) a "granny" or
old woman's knot
and (2) on another
joint, a true square knot.
At the third joint they tied a "granny",
but added two more hitches to make
it sure.
