put tip of R.H. 2. on peg. (fig 3.)

string comes off the peg.

closed ring, and the relation of the
string at this stage is shown in
figs 4, 5, 6, & 7.

Take a plain pices of string 18"
long. Hang it over base of LH. +, the
+ pointing to R. Wind the part nearest
the chest back under the thumb and
round over again, & so, 3 or 4 times,
towards the nail ^ - a hawser or R.H. lay. Now with the slack
of the same part make a hawser ^ or R.H. lay loop
