Flag: to hoist & let "break out".

(Fig 1.) The flag ready to "make up". Fold
it lengthwise ^across middle lengthwise and so on as many times as will
reduce width to 8" to 10". (2) Then roll towards
binding ^ canvas heading (a) from a' & b b' ^so that [illegible crossed out text];with tack ^long tack c [in pencil repeated in ink] is outside.
take 2 turns round & hitch under; make
loop at end of hoisting halyard e &
put ^head toggle through; attach the other halyard
to tail ^long tack</s> c by sheet bend (3) <i> p 73. Haul up
over flagstaff pulley by e, guiding gently
with e'. (fig 4.) Then tug e' and the
flag "breaks out".
If wet, dry before folding "making up".
All flags lowered at night.
