Let the red rings represent stitch holes.
Then, with plenty of slack pulled through
on the concave side of the needle, put
point down through 1 & up through 2-
Withdraw, leaving loop above 2; re-in-
sert, forming a loop, at 1 & pass up
through 3. Pass loop at 1 over loop
at 2 & loop at 2 over needle point at
3. Withdraw, leaving loop at 3; hold
this down at 4; insert needle at 2 &
up through loop at 4. To continue from
3 to 5, 4 to 6 & so on. [Inclusive bracket] Pull all loops from the
part a , not b then tag

Fig 1. shows passage of needle
-2[ditto] 3 completed stitches and 3 begun.
The needle is about to be inserted at 5.
Fig 3 shows appearance at top.

The end b need not be long & can ^be hitched in.
It need not be passed through ring eye on awl handle.
