Netting.
Casting on (the 1st 1/2 meshes.)

Join the ends of 11/2 yds of string (more or less) to start the net upon.
Loop this over a peg or one's foot. Having filled the needle, with the
end of the twine on it. tie a couple of 1/2 hitches on the string
[Diagram]
Hold spool horizontally & against this knot, pass st twine down over front
of spool, pass needle downwards through loop of string & through &
above loop of slack
down across front of behind spool. (This makes 11/2 hitch.)
Throw slack ^under spool in loop to left. Pass needle up behind spool through string
& over slack. (This makes the 2nd 1/2 hitch. [Pencil] Pull string tight in front of spool.

[Text to left of diagram] [Diagram]
All is done behind the spool
& regardless of it in making the
2nd 1/2 hitch except that the
knot is eventually drawn tight
to the top edge of the spool.
[Text under diagram]
The net now is thus cast on the string (which later on will be cut & drawn
